13 June 09 .... Day 44

STATE OF MAINE from Signal Hill

We were certainly greeted well by our Newfoundland hosts.  Terrific support and very friendly people greeted us everywhere.  The Council of Master Mariners, Marine Institute of Memorial University  and  the city of St. John's have all worked hard to make this a memorable visit.

Last night we hosted a reception on board which was attended by about 100 people from the surrounding area. Ship Captains abounded and everyone was somehow connected to the Maritime Industry.  Canadian Coast Guard is shifting their Ice Breaker fleet to St. John's, there are several chartered Tankers sitting here loaded waiting to deploy to Arctic resupply and Shipping Company owners and operators all attended.  What a great bunch....the "Sea Stories" were fantastic.  Our dining service did another fine job and compliments were everywhere.

Several students did well snagging some of the local fish......perhaps this area tops all of our journey's to places where fish are in every puddle.

We received the new mini-boat transmitter and it is in the process to be installed on K-Kids Kruiser.

Ideals are like stars:  we never reach them, but like the mariners of the sea, we chart our course by them.
